Caterpillar's brand reputation carries weight in heavy equipment, and that reputation extends to the lift truck line. The GP25N is CAT's 5,000-pound LPG pneumatic-tire counterbalance forklift, designed for the outdoor, mixed-use, and light-duty rough-surface applications where an indoor electric machine doesn't belong. Construction supply yards, heavy lumber operations, freight terminals with outdoor staging, and manufacturing plants with mixed floor conditions all run machines in this class.

The GP25N runs on an LPG fuel system with a 4.3L engine (in the current generation, sourced through Mitsubishi's platform cooperation with CAT), matched to a torque converter transmission. The 5,000-pound capacity at a 24-inch load center is the standard spec for this weight class, and the pneumatic tires handle the surfaces where cushion-tire trucks have no business operating. Mast options cover the standard two-stage, three-stage, and quad-mast configurations used in general freight and manufacturing applications.

A new GP25N lists priced roughly $28k–$38k depending on mast height and options, which puts a single unit near or at the bottom of our $50,000 financing floor. Most GP25N financing deals involve two or more units, or a GP25N packaged alongside other material handling equipment or a forklift attachment. We finance the GP25N new or used, purchase or lease, and we're comfortable with B and C credit situations on machines with this level of liquidity in the secondary market. Completed forklift packages usually fund inside seven to fourteen days.

Caterpillar GP25N: Under the Hood and in the Field

The GP25N's engine is the result of the lift truck industry's long manufacturing partnership structure. CAT lift trucks (at the GP25N class) are produced through a platform cooperation arrangement that uses Mitsubishi-heritage engineering in a CAT-branded package. This matters practically because it means parts availability spans both the CAT dealer network and the independent Mitsubishi forklift parts channels, which is broader than a proprietary platform would provide.

  • Capacity: 5,000 lbs at 24-inch load center
  • Fuel: LPG (propane)
  • Engine: 4.3L LPG engine (current generation via Mitsubishi platform cooperation)
  • Transmission: Torque converter type
  • Tires: Pneumatic, outdoor and mixed-surface capable
  • Mast options: two-stage (duplex), three-stage (triplex), quad, various height configurations
  • Operating environment: outdoor, mixed indoor/outdoor, light rough terrain

Competing directly in the same market against theClark GCX25, the Komatsu FG25, and the Hyster H50XT, the GP25N's primary differentiation is brand cachet and dealer network presence in markets where CAT equipment dealers already serve construction customers. In regions with strong CAT dealer coverage, service response time for GP25N trucks can be faster than for less-common brands simply because the dealer is already in the market for other CAT equipment. That service availability matters for the total cost of ownership calculation.

For construction contractors and construction supply operations that already run CAT equipment on their sites, consolidating lift truck purchasing under the CAT brand simplifies service relationships and, in some cases, parts ordering. We finance the GP25N as part of mixed CAT equipment packages and as standalone forklift fleet deals.

Operations That Run the GP25N

Construction supply distributors are among the most common GP25N operators. A building materials yard that sells lumber, drywall, roofing, and masonry supplies needs a 5,000-pound pneumatic-tire machine that can work outside in all weather conditions, handle both palletized and bulky materials, and run without the maintenance complexity of an electric drive system that doesn't belong outdoors. The GP25N fits that application directly.

Freight terminal yards where trailers are moved, staged, and spot-loaded outdoors are another heavy GP25N environment. A terminal that receives LTL freight and stages it for regional delivery runs these machines for product handling in a semi-outdoor environment where fuel cylinder changes are simple and the pneumatic tires handle dock apron surfaces and yard pavement without the cushion-tire wear you'd see on an indoor electric machine.

Theconstruction and contractor marketitself runs these trucks at project sites as temporary material handling equipment, which creates a strong market for used units at equipment rental companies and project-based buyers who don't want to pay full price for a machine that may only be needed for a 6 to 18 month project. We finance the GP25N throughauction and private-party purchase channelsfor buyers in that situation.

GP25N Financing Deal Structure

For operations buying two or more new GP25N units, the deal typically falls priced roughly $60k–$90k, fitting neatly into our application-only underwriting zone and closing in seven to fourteen days. Recent operating statements, the dealer invoice, and a signed application is all we need at that size.

Used GP25N units in the 5,000 to 12,000 hour range trade from $10,000 to $20,000 depending on year, hours, and condition. A five to seven unit used purchase brings the deal well above our floor. For a single used GP25N, the deal is below our minimum unless packaged with other equipment or attachments in the same transaction.

Terms on 5,000-pound LPG counterbalance trucks typically run 36 to 60 months. These machines have long service lives when maintained, often running 12,000 to 18,000 hours before requiring major rebuilds, so a 48 or 60 month term on a new unit is conservative relative to the expected useful life. Lease structures, both FMV anddollar buyout leases, work equally well on these machines depending on your ownership and tax preference.

Forklift Questions

Answers styled as readable accordions instead of loose text blocks.

Does CAT offer their own financing for the GP25N, and how does it compare?

Cat Financial and the CAT lift truck dealer network do offer financing options. As with other manufacturer captive programs, the comparison comes down to credit flexibility and deal structure. If you need B or C credit underwriting, a sale-leaseback on existing equipment, or a non-standard term, we're more likely to have options that work. If your credit is strong and the deal is straightforward, compare both before committing.

Is the GP25N appropriate for light outdoor rough-terrain work, or does it need a flat surface?

The GP25N with pneumatic tires handles typical construction site surfaces, gravel yards, and uneven pavement. It's not a dedicated rough-terrain forklift with large flotation tires and four-wheel drive. For actual job site rough terrain with significant grade and soft ground, a telehandler or a dedicated rough-terrain forklift is the appropriate machine. For the mixed indoor/outdoor and paved yard applications that most lumberyards and construction supply distributors run, the GP25N is the right tool.

We have a seasonal business and our forklift need is heavier for six months. Is there a payment structure that reflects that?

Yes. Seasonal deferred-payment structures allow you to make reduced payments during slow periods and higher payments during active season. These structures are available on select deals and are discussed during the underwriting conversation. If your bank statements show a clear seasonal revenue pattern, bring that context to the application and we'll discuss whether a seasonal structure fits the deal.

The GP25N we're looking at is available at an online auction. How does that work for financing?

Auction purchases are common. We fund off the auction invoice and the equipment details, typically on an application-only basis for deals under $400,000. You'll need the serial number and basic equipment details to complete the underwrite. Get pre-qualified with us before the auction if possible so you know your funding is in place before you bid.

Can we include forklift attachments, like a rotator or a push-pull, in the GP25N financing?

Yes. Attachments for the GP25N can be included in the same transaction as the truck. The attachment cost adds to the total financed amount, which helps if a standalone GP25N purchase would be close to the floor. A truck at $30,000 plus a $12,000 attachment is a $42,000 deal, still below the floor, but add a second truck or a charger and you're through it.
